Overview
Ying Jia Xing Cantonese Opera Troupe proudly presents the classic Cantonese opera "Liu Jinding Crashes Four Gates" at the Grand Theatre of the Xiqu Centre. Set against the backdrop of the early Song Dynasty, the plot unfolds when Emperor Zhao Kuangyin is trapped in Shouzhou due to the deceitful surrender of the Southern Tang kingdom. To rescue the Emperor, the heroic youth Gao Junbao ventures out and encounters the valiant warrior woman Liu Jinding at Shuangsuo Mountain. Their fated meeting leads to a fierce martial arts contest, where they ultimately gain mutual respect, exchanging a golden mace and a silver bell arrow to seal their betrothal.
When Gao Junbao is injured during the siege of Shouzhou, Liu Jinding rushes to the battlefield, courageously crashing through the four gates to break the siege. Despite opposition from her father, Liu Ping, and the treacherous schemes of the Southern Tang, including a deadly poisoned arrow plot, Liu Jinding and Gao Junbao remain steadfast. With the intervention of Emperor Zhao Kuangyin, the grievances between the Liu and Zhao families are resolved, leading to a glorious victory over the Southern Tang forces. This performance highlights Liu Jinding’s exceptional courage and prowess, blending thrilling action with emotional depth.
