Highlights
The "Peking Opera Martial Arts Showcase" brings together top martial artists from four major Peking Opera troupes in China, lighting up the stage in Hong Kong during the "Chinese Culture Festival 2026." This is a rare feast of martial arts opera, showcasing the ultimate skills of contemporary Peking Opera martial artists and a must-watch for traditional theatre enthusiasts.
Program
Led by Xi Zhonglu, known as the "foremost martial arts actor in the contemporary Peking Opera world," the showcase features powerhouses such as Wei Xuelei, Chen Lin, Wang Xilong, Wang Daxing, and Lü Meng. The program is rich and varied, featuring a mix of classics that balance drama and martial action, the unique style of "painted face" (Gou lian) martial arts roles, and traditional pieces emphasizing intricate long-robe (Changkao) techniques and swift short-clothed (Duanda) skills, capturing the essence of both northern and southern martial opera traditions.
