Programme Overview
'Kowloon Walled City Story' is an original Cantonese opera produced by the Sunny Cantonese Opera Troupe. Set in 1898, following the signing of the 'Convention for the Extension of Hong Kong Territory' between the Qing government and Britain, the Kowloon Walled City remained a unique enclave under Qing administration. The drama traces the journey of Zhou Ruolan, the daughter of a wealthy merchant, and Yang Yiyong, a teacher at the Longjin Yixue. Through their initial conflicts and eventual unity against colonial pressure, the play masterfully weaves the historical evolution of the Kowloon Walled City with the personal struggles and patriotic spirit of its inhabitants during a turbulent era.
