The "Chinese Culture Festival 2026" proudly presents "Journeys to the West: Cinematic Dialogues Across Time." As a cornerstone of Chinese classical fantasy, "Journey to the West" has provided endless inspiration for cinematic adaptations, blending adventure, philosophical insight, and rich character development. Jointly organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Hong Kong Film Archive, and the Chinese Culture Promotion Office, this event curates six classic films across different eras, offering diverse perspectives on how filmmakers have reimagined this literary treasure.

Programme

The undeniable highlight of this series is the premiere of the new 4K digital restorations of Stephen Chow’s 1995 classics: "A Chinese Odyssey Part 1: Pandora's Box" and "A Chinese Odyssey Part 2: Cinderella." Meticulously restored by the Hong Kong Film Archive, these versions offer enhanced image clarity and refined audio fidelity, bringing a fresh cinematic experience to the big screen at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre. Witness the legendary tales of time-travel and transformation with a visual and auditory clarity that pays homage to their enduring legacy. The full programme includes four additional films, creating a comprehensive dialogue between literature and cinema across the decades.
