Exhibition Overview
The "Back and Forth" duo exhibition, presented by the Goethe-Institut Hongkong, features the collaborative work of artists Hsu Hui-lun and Su Li-ping. The title is inspired by the poem "Flower Cloth Street" by Hong Kong author Leung Ping-kwan (Yasi) and the German phrase "hin und her," metaphorically describing a state of oscillating movement and an inability to reach a final destination. The exhibition serves as a profound reflection on the sense of time itself within our modern existence.
Highlights
Time appears to be dislocated, hovering like a ghost over the present, carrying with it promises of a future that never arrived and a past that is slowly fading. Through installation and video works, the exhibition invites the audience to traverse Hong Kong’s collective memories. Visitors will encounter familiar scenes: fireworks over Victoria Harbour, dragons in the plaza, banquet photographs, and the thrill of the horse races. These fragments are reinterpreted by the artists, creating a tension between the old and the new, ultimately forcing us to re-examine the temporal state of Hong Kong.
About the Artists
Artists Hsu Hui-lun and Su Li-ping engage in a dialogue that bridges different media. They capture the traces of time often overlooked or misunderstood, prompting viewers to reconsider the rhythm of contemporary life.
