About the Program
As part of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre’s "Readers' Theatre" series, this production explores the essence of contemporary drama through a focused, reading-based presentation. "The Game of Polyamory Life" is based on the acclaimed work by Japanese playwright Onoma Riko, a finalist for the 61st Kishida Kunio Drama Award.
The story centers on Angel, a high school teacher who has opted for an unconventional emotional journey by living in a three-way relationship with Moon and Tiger. Within this emotional utopia, the trio strives to balance jealousy and acceptance to maintain a peaceful existence. However, their routine is disrupted when their peace is challenged: a former acquaintance, Alice, who firmly believes in monogamy, enters their lives, followed by a sudden confession from a former student, Gundam. These intrusions force the polyamorous relationship to confront intense psychological pressures. Through detailed, everyday dialogue, the play explores the definitions of intimacy in modern society and invites the audience to ponder the ultimate answers regarding love, freedom, and happiness.
Performers
The reading is guided by Yip Man-lai, with performances by Kwok Ching-man, Ding Tung-yan, Au Yeung-chun, Au Kai-fat, and Cheung Yin.
