Program

The Hong Kong String Orchestra presents the "29th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return to the Motherland Concert," led by renowned conductor Yang Yang and featuring founder and violinist Jue Yao. This performance serves as a tribute to the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong's return, featuring a carefully curated program of Western and Chinese classical works that connect diverse cultures and emotions.

The first half features European folk-influenced works, including Sibelius' solemn "Festive Andante," Bartók's "Romanian Folk Dances"—a collection of six short pieces derived from Eastern European melodies—and Dvořák's evocative "Serenade for Strings in E Major."

The second half highlights contemporary Chinese compositions, starting with Guo Wenjing's "Chinese Folk Song Suite," which captures the natural landscapes and cultural scenery of the country across four movements. Additionally, the concert features the premiere of "Kowloon," a work commissioned by the Hong Kong String Orchestra from composer Liang Haoyi, with Jue Yao as the violin soloist. The piece is divided into four movements: "Kowloon," "Walled City," "Lion Rock Shadows," and "Next Station, West Kowloon." Using the language of strings, it narrates the story and spirit of Hong Kong.
