Highlights
Presented by Zuni Icosahedron, the "Zuni Gods Festival & Danny Yung Experimental Theatre Youth Academy 2026" commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Hong Kong Centre for Contemporary Culture and the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity. This festival is more than a series of performances; it serves as a cross-cultural, experimental site, deeply probing the essence of theatre as a public and spiritual space for communication between humans, spirits, and the divine.
Program
The heart of the festival lies in the "Seven Directors x Seven Performances" series, blending installation, contemporary theatre, dance, opera, sound, and visual arts to showcase the diversity of contemporary performance:
- Danny Yung's The Record of Ghosts 2026: Using cross-dressing theatre to playfully explore the artist's multiple identities.
- Danny Yung's Zuni Gods Festival 2026: Inviting artists from across Asia to transform the stage into an altar for cross-cultural dialogue.
- Au Kok-yee & Xie Shu's Outside the Frame: An installation project questioning boundaries of space and memory.
- Steve Hui's Judgment: Noise: Transmuting daily sounds and noise into sensory performance.
- Edward Lam's Yi Yi (Excerpt): Adapted from Edward Yang's film, exploring the philosophy of "seeing and not seeing."
- Joshua Chan's Boundary: A collaboration with choreographer Chou Shu-yi exploring the relationship between movement and borders.
- Liu Xiaoyi's Academy of Thought 2026: A profound analysis of cultural education and artistic institutions.
The festival also features a series of "One Table Two Chairs" forums hosted by Liu Xiaoyi, inviting artists to discuss fundamental questions regarding educational innovation, the future of arts festivals, and cross-cultural dialectics.
