Program Highlights
With a soul rooted in Yu opera and the elegance of the Peony city, the Luoyang Yu Opera Troupe brings a spectacular lineup to the Chinese Culture Festival 2026. This performance features Guan Meili, a direct disciple of the legendary Yu opera master Ma Jinfeng, alongside multiple Plum Blossom Award winners and first-class actors. The 'Shuai Dan' (handsome female role) style, pioneered by Ma Jinfeng, combines the physical movements of the Qingyi, Daomadan, and martial arts roles, characterized by a bold, vigorous style, resonant vocals, and a rich artistic flavor, earning it the reputation of the 'Peony of Luoyang'. Audiences will enjoy the classic 'One Play, Two Flowers' repertoire, including the heroic 'Mu Guiying Takes Command', the spirited 'Hua Da Chao', and 'Hua Qiang Yuan', which beautifully conveys decades of deep-seated grievances. A curated selection of excerpts from various schools will further showcase the diverse facets of Yu opera.
