The Hebei Bangzi Opera Theatre of Hebei Province makes a grand return to Hong Kong for the "Chinese Culture Festival 2026," bringing a series of classic Hebei Bangzi masterpieces. Known for its powerful, high-pitched vocals, intense rhythms, and intricate performance techniques, Hebei Bangzi stands as one of the most expressive regional opera genres. This visit features a star-studded cast of "Plum Blossom Prize" laureates, showcasing the artistic vitality and heritage of this National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The repertoire includes full-length classics and a showcase of opera excerpts, blending emotional depth with spectacular martial arts:

  • 24 July (Fri) 19:30 - "Zhong Kui": A cornerstone of the Hebei Bangzi repertoire since the 1980s. This performance depicts the poignant transformations between human, ghost, and deity, performed by a quartet of Plum Blossom Prize winners.
  • 25 July (Sat) 19:30 - "The Lotus Lantern": A legendary mythological drama that integrates elegant dance with high-difficulty martial arts, recounting the heart-moving tale of saving one's mother.
  • 26 July (Sun) 14:30 - Excerpt Showcase: Featuring segments including "Nan Bei He - Crying at the City," "Hu Family Village," "Dou E's Injustice - The Execution Ground," and "Wa Qiao Pass - Bloody Battle at Wa Qiao Pass."
