Program Introduction
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department as part of the 'Chinese Culture Festival 2026', this new Cantonese opera 'Ancient Tune of Guangling' explores the legendary life of the Wei and Jin Dynasty scholar Ji Kang. The narrative delves into how this distinguished scholar maintained his moral integrity and free spirit through his music and sword despite the chaotic political landscape of his time. The performance captures his tragic yet courageous life, culminating in the iconic scene on the execution ground where he plays his final, soul-stirring composition of 'Guangling San'. The production runs for approximately 3 hours, including a 15-minute intermission, and features both Chinese and English subtitles to enhance accessibility.
Cast & Production Team
This production features a remarkable ensemble of renowned Cantonese opera artists. With a script by Wu Kwok-yin and directed by artistic director Leung Wai-hong, the show aims to reinterpret the spirit of the Wei and Jin scholars through traditional Cantonese opera. The star-studded cast includes Lung Koon-tin, Tang Mei-ling, Yuen Siu-fai, Liu Kwok-sum, Man Suet-kau, To Wing-sum, and Ng Lap-hei. This cross-generational collaboration celebrates the artistic excellence of the performers and their dedication to the craft.

Performances will be held at the Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium, located at 1 Yuen Wo Road, Sha Tin. The venue is easily accessible by MTR East Rail Line, with a short walk from Sha Tin Station through the shopping arcades.
