Highlights

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) proudly welcomes renowned conductor Manfred Honeck to open the new season. This concert features two contrasting masterpieces: Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 "Pastoral," a portrait of nature's serenity, and the Strauss "Elektra" Suite, arranged by Honeck, which dives into the dark, complex depths of human psychology. It promises an evening of profound emotional contrast.

Program

  • Beethoven: Symphony No. 6 in F, Op. 68, "Pastoral": A pioneering work of program music that captures Beethoven's deep love for nature. From bubbling brooks to the dramatic arrival of a thunderstorm, the symphony culminates in a song of gratitude.
  • Strauss (arr. Honeck & Ille): "Elektra" Suite: Based on Strauss's opera, this suite portrays the tragic world of Princess Elektra in Mycenae after the Trojan War. The music distills the opera's intense themes of revenge, rage, and psychological turmoil into powerful orchestral outbursts.
