Overview
Zuni Icosahedron proudly presents the historical drama "1587, A Year of No Significance," adapted from the classic work by historian Ray Huang. Directed by Mathias Woo, the production integrates Zuni's signature Arts Tech to transport audiences back to 1587. It re-examines the lives of six pivotal figures—the Wanli Emperor, Zhang Juzheng, Shen Shixing, Hai Rui, Qi Jiguang, and Li Zhi—whose individual fates were intertwined with the decline of the Ming Dynasty. This experimental theatrical feast explores themes of power, imperial fate, and historical inevitability.
The production has received high acclaim from renowned artists: Taiwanese director Stan Lai described it as a "beautiful play"; famous Hong Kong author and screenwriter Lilian Lee praised the actors for their "seamless delivery of complex lines"; and filmmaker Tsui Hark hailed it as a "thought-provoking experimental theatre piece."
