Program Overview

"The Rising Ants" is a celebrated production from the "Insect Series" by acclaimed playwright Pun Wai-sum, originally premiered in 1998. The play serves as a poignant exploration of the lives of grassroots individuals in Hong Kong, metaphorically likened to ants struggling to climb a towering tree of life. Blending elements of Hong Kong-style absurdity with dark humor, the script employs offbeat dialogue to uncover the daily anxieties, struggles, and existential confusion of contemporary urban living. This classic play remains a hallmark of local theatre, offering audiences a profound reflection on the meaning of life.

Cast & Crew

The production is produced and artistically directed by Siu Chun-pong, with direction by Ip Man-lai and creative consultation by Chan Suk-yee. The cast features Man Hoi-lam, Leung Kin-chung, and Siu Chun-pong. The creative and technical team includes Stage Manager Lin Ying-ying, Assistant Stage Managers Yuen Shok-him and Lau Hoi-kit, Lighting Designer Chan Man-nga, Set & Costume Designer Lin Wing-yan, and Animation & Sound Designer Wong Ching-yan.
