Program

Embark on a luminous journey into the depths of the soul. The original ballet production "Dunhuang: In Search of Light," created by choreographers Hu Songwei and Mai Jingwen—the duo behind the acclaimed "Butterfly Lovers"—is inspired by Hermann Hesse’s immortal classic "Siddhartha." This production masterfully fuses Western ballet with Eastern philosophical depth to create a new contemporary classic that searches for spiritual belonging. Audiences will follow a seeker as they traverse the magnificent landscapes of the Silk Road, dancing in search of the meaning of life. Along the way, the seeker encounters worldly temptations, trials, and the pain of separation. Guided by artistic icons like the Apsaras, the Nine-Colored Deer, and the Water-Moon Guanyin, they overcome life’s hardships and sorrows, maintaining compassion, and finally discover the eternal light within their solitary journey.
