Special ceramic display by Karena Lam integrated into exhibition furniture.

Highlighting the exhibition is the inclusion of Karena Lam's ceramic art. These pieces are meticulously placed within the Horseshoe Ring Table, bridging the gap between cold metal and warm, organic clay. This collaboration adds a layer of emotional storytelling to the collection.

The When Art Meets Horse Racing exhibition is an innovative cross-disciplinary project curated by local designer and educator Clement Cheng, founder of CCS Interior Design Studio. Taking place from May 23 to May 29, 2026, at the Tai Kwun E-Hall, this event invites visitors to explore the aesthetic intersection of Hong Kong’s vibrant horse racing heritage and contemporary art and design.

Exhibition Concept

Clement Cheng envisioned this project to bridge two worlds: the high-speed intensity of the racecourse and the reflective nature of fine art. By collaborating with international talents—including Korean installation artist Daun Jeong and Japanese furniture designer Tatsushige Nakamura—the exhibition transforms symbolic elements of the equestrian world, such as jockey silks, saddles, and horseshoe ironwork, into functional art pieces.

  • Deconstructed Silks: An installation by CCS and Daun Jeong that reinterprets jockey silks into fluid, sculptural fabric forms.
  • The Stall Screen: A room divider inspired by stable architecture, balancing rough industrial elements with delicate light-and-shadow play.
  • The Horseshoe Ring Table: A sophisticated coffee table utilizing the geometry of horseshoes, created to represent the link between horses and the earth.
  • The ZP Chair: A tribute to legendary jockey Zac Purton, designed to capture the intensity and focus of professional race preparation, featuring hidden nods to his career milestones.

The exhibition is enhanced by a special collaboration with acclaimed actress and ceramicist Karena Lam, who has crafted unique ceramic pieces embedded within the table designs, symbolizing luck and victory.
