Highlights
The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Youth Troupe presents its highly anticipated annual showcase, featuring fresh, experimental interpretations of classic plays. These young performers will tackle complex themes of manipulation and human behavior, showcasing the culmination of their intensive year-long training in a compelling theatrical format.
Program
This year's program features two distinct productions:
- "Puppet": Inspired by Ibsen’s A Doll's House, this experimental piece follows a mastermind who organizes an elaborate theatre experiment, inviting characters from different backgrounds to rewrite Nora’s fate. It raises provocative questions about manipulation in relationships and whether we are merely puppets in a larger power play.
- "The Merchant of 'Shrimp'": A contemporary deconstruction of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. Through the eyes of local market figures, the narrative examines the dramatic conflict of the "pound of flesh" contract, offering a modern critique of greed, mercy, and justice.
For Secondary Students: "Youth Troupe Decoded"
A special package is available for secondary students to gain an immersive theatrical experience:
- "Play" Drama Workshop: Hosted by Leung Chi-chung (Education Program Coordinator, HKRep), exploring creative performance techniques.
- Performance Viewing: Includes one ticket to the student session. Date: July 24, 2026 (Workshop). Pre-registration required; valid full-time student ID must be presented.
Venue & Access
The performances will be held at the HKRep Black Box Theatre (8/F, Sheung Wan Civic Centre). Located in the heart of Sheung Wan, the venue is easily accessible by MTR and offers an intimate space perfect for experiencing these innovative productions.
