Unveiling 'Boundary • Bound': A Dialogue Beyond the Classroom

This June, the Hong Kong Art School (HKAS) proudly presents 'Boundary • Bound' (結 • 界), a significant exhibition showcasing the artistic contributions of 15 distinguished lecturers from the Higher Diploma in Fine Art program. Curated by HKAS graduates Bowie Chan and Paul Wong, the exhibition invites the public to step into an artistic dialogue that transcends the traditional boundaries of art education.

The Concept

The term 'Boundary' (結界) traditionally refers to a sacred space in Buddhist culture, meant for meditation and protection. Over time, it has evolved in Hong Kong's cultural lexicon to signify mysterious, otherworldly spaces. This exhibition reclaims the term, exploring how artistic identity and educational frameworks often create invisible boundaries that restrict creativity. By questioning these rigid roles, the exhibition aims to foster a more equitable, free, and fluid environment for artistic expression.

The exhibition features works by 15 key lecturers, each selected to challenge conventions and demonstrate the power of non-conformist art:

A Collective Vision

'Boundary • Bound' is more than an exhibition; it is a testament to the evolution of the Higher Diploma program. It stands as a beacon for current, former, and future students, encouraging them to see beyond the institutional 'box' and engage with art as a pure, egalitarian pursuit. The curators have worked diligently to ensure that this collection represents a shift toward a more inclusive and daring future for the institution.

We invite all art lovers, students, and educators to join us in Wan Chai this June. Experience a space where the pedagogical boundary dissolves, and true artistic voices emerge.
