The EMO Circus (EMO馬戲團) exhibition is a soul-stirring creative experiment gathering six of Hong Kong's most promising young artists. Hosted at Running Out of Space, this group exhibition explores the intersection between raw emotion and artistic creation. It asks a provocative question: Do artists create because of their emotional state, or do they find themselves becoming emotional because of their work?
The Artistic Narrative
Drawing inspiration from the metaphorical nature of the circus, the participating artists adopt various 'performer' roles to present a high-stakes 'inner drama' for the audience. The exhibition space is filled with the weight of difficulty, exaggeration, absurdity, and奇葩 (extraordinary) textures. As described by the curators, the show is an intimate experiment—a self-funded, spontaneous collaboration that embraces 'Happy Chaos' and the spirit of youth. Much like the poignant lyrics of Ivana Wong's Lost Art, these artists open the door to complex thoughts, revealing that behind every polished performance lies a vulnerable, stone-like human core.
Why You Should Visit
This is a unique opportunity to see how young contemporary artists in Hong Kong process the 'bottlenecks' of creativity. While the exhibition is titled 'EMO,' it is not merely about despair. It is about acknowledging that while the tightrope of creation can be daunting and painful, the artist remains a graceful, pure dancer—the 'orange kitten' in the cosmic eye. This is a must-visit for those who appreciate raw, self-driven art that refuses to conform to sterile institutional norms.
Practical Information
The exhibition is free to the public and runs daily from May 6th to May 31st, 2026. Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibition at their own pace. Given the intimate nature of the space, we recommend checking the Running Out of Space official Instagram for any special updates or curator tours that might occur during the period.
