Highlights
This recital marks the debut of a piano trio featuring three Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts alumni: Chloe Chung (piano), Helen Yu (violin), and Kin Chen (cello). Now pursuing doctoral studies in the United States, they return to Hong Kong to perform a thoughtfully curated program centered on the dialogue between Classical clarity and Romantic intensity.
Program
The title "Relative Reflections" highlights the relationship between the two featured works. Both share the same three-flat key signature, yet they occupy opposite emotional worlds. The program pairs Beethoven's Trio in E-flat Major, Op. 1 No. 1, which showcases the wit and structural innovation of the Classical era, with Mendelssohn's Trio in C Minor, Op. 66, a masterpiece of Romantic virtuosity. Audiences will experience the transition from Haydn-influenced Classical form to the rich, lyrical chromaticism of Mendelssohn.
Performers
The trio features Chloe Chung (New England Conservatory), Helen Yu (Stony Brook University), and Kin Chen (Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University). Each artist brings rigorous international training combined with their shared foundation from Hong Kong, resulting in a performance that bridges their past and present musical journeys.
