An Artistic Dialogue Across Time

KC100 Art Space is proud to present "Dialogue Between Light and Ink" (光與墨的對話), a joint exhibition that serves as the inaugural showcase for the gallery’s 10th Anniversary Series. This exhibition honors the legacy of the late Dr. Eddy Li (李秀恒), a celebrated photographer and businessman, by pairing his evocative photographic archives with the intricate printmaking techniques of David Jasper Wong (王大為).

The Intersection of Vision and Texture

The exhibition explores the intersection of documentary photography and fine art printmaking. Dr. Eddy Li’s original photographs, which capture life’s transient moments, serve as the creative catalyst. David Jasper Wong responds to these images by creating black-and-white prints that pay homage to the raw, documentary essence of the originals. In the lower sections of the artworks, Wong reinterprets the vibrant color palettes through layered ink textures and specialized printmaking techniques, breathing new emotional depth into the imagery.

This dialogue between light (captured by the camera lens) and ink (applied via the printing press) is inspired by the legendary 1968 MoMA exhibition "Photography as Printmaking." The show invites visitors to reflect on the nature of memory and how artistic expression can transform a split second of reality into a lasting poetic impression.

  • Dr. Eddy Li (1954–2024): A pillar of the Hong Kong business community and an accomplished photographer whose works have been featured by National Geographic and various prestige publications.
  • David Jasper Wong: An accomplished printmaker and founder of Marble Print & Clay, a studio dedicated to the advancement of printmaking art in Hong Kong.

As part of the KC100 10th Anniversary Series, titled "Urban Footprints: From Streets to Harbors, From Witness to Memory," this exhibition is the first of four major duo-exhibitions featuring seven artists who have grown alongside the space over the past decade.
