Program Overview
As summer fades into autumn, a season symbolizing harvest, abundance, and reunion, the 'Rejoice, the Autumnal Feast' concert invites you to the historic HK News-Expo. Housed in the former Bridges Street Market, a Grade 3 historic building constructed in 1953, the venue provides a unique backdrop for this chamber music experience. Artistic Director and cellist Trey Lee, joined by a group of emerging musicians, will curate a series of classical pieces that reflect the themes of harvest, gratitude, and communal unity.
Highlights
- Cross-disciplinary Experience: This event bridges the gap between music and history. In collaboration with 'Hong Kong History' (港識多史), the concert features a curated exhibition of archival newspapers and documents, exploring the cultural history of Mid-Autumn traditions and the nostalgic 'Mooncake Clubs' of the past.
- Selected Works: The program features Vivaldi's exuberant 'Autumn' from The Four Seasons, the poignant 'Heiliger Dankgesang' from Beethoven's String Quartet No. 15 (Op. 132), and Copland's vibrant 'Hoe-Down', capturing the full spectrum of the autumnal spirit—from quiet contemplation to joyful celebration.
- Heritage Tour: The concert lasts approximately 40 minutes, with no intermission. Following the performance, attendees are invited to join a one-hour guided heritage tour (in Cantonese) to delve deeper into the architectural and social significance of the News-Expo.
