Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra: Peng Xiuwen 95th Anniversary Concert

Highlights

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the passing of Peng Xiuwen, a pioneering figure in modern Chinese orchestral music, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra will present the "Peng Xiuwen 95th Anniversary Concert" at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall on July 24-25, 2026. Conducted by Artistic Director Yan Huichang, the concert features elite soloists from the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, an ensemble long led by Master Peng, to present a tribute of profound artistic depth.

Program

The two-night program captures the vast breadth of Peng Xiuwen's musical legacy:

• July 24: Highlights include "Moon Rising" featuring pipa soloist Chen Yin, the orchestral arrangement of "Moon over the Fountain" (Erhu: Zhang Zhongxue), the symphonic poem "Flowing Water," and the epic "Fantasia: Terracotta Warriors."
• July 25: The concert opens with the majestic "General's Command." It explores segments from the suite "Twelve Months" and includes local-themed works like "Night City under Victoria Peak" and Guangdong classics such as "Racing Dragon Boats" and "Falling Flowers and Flowing Water." Both nights will conclude with the landmark "Fantasia: Terracotta Warriors."
