Highlights

The "Sheng & Harmonica" Gold Age Heartstrings Concert, a feature of the 2nd Hong Kong Gold Age Art Festival, brings together five outstanding music ensembles composed of senior musicians. With most performers boasting over 30 years of experience, this concert offers a moving tapestry of Chinese instrumental music and harmonica solos and ensembles. It serves as a testament to how the older generation utilizes art to maintain an active and vibrant lifestyle.

Program

The concert showcases a diverse selection of musical styles that highlight the unique charm of combining traditional Chinese instruments with the harmonica. Participating groups include the historic Hong Kong Chinese YMCA Harmonica Orchestra (est. 1941) and the Hong Kong Senior Chinese Orchestra (est. 2015), which promotes musical engagement among the elderly. Additionally, the audience can enjoy performances by the Queen's College Old Boys' Association Harmonica Ensemble, led by world harmonica champions Mr. Yeung Yuet-po and Mr. Lee Sheung-ching.

The program also features the "Cantonese Music Four-piece" ensemble led by Dr. Lo Wai-kwok, alongside the Zhong Yue Le Harmonica Ensemble—a group formed by musicians who began learning the instrument after the age of 60, embodying the spirit of lifelong learning. The synergy and chemistry developed over years of collaborative practice will resonate throughout the Black Box Theatre, creating an intimate and deeply touching musical experience.
