Janice Laujan "Memory & Punishment" Sound Installation and Performance

Highlights

"Memory & Punishment" is a unique sound installation and durational performance commissioned by Serakai Studio, created by artist and musician Janice Laujan (lead singer of the post-punk band DAVID BORING). The exhibition transforms the gallery into a "social garden," using purple velvet, subtle resonant soundscapes, and light fog to create an immersive, otherworldly environment. Visitors are invited to walk barefoot through the space, fostering a direct, physical dialogue with the installation.

Program

At the core of the exhibition lies an observation of contemporary life: the scarcity of spaces where individuals can dwell with unresolved memories or emotions—such as shame and grief—without the pressure to immediately fix, resolve, or move on. Laujan envisions this space as a garden that holds these unaddressed memories, inviting audiences into a sensory-driven network. There is no judgment here, only a gentle invitation to dwell with difficulty.

Performers

In addition to the static sound installation, various Hong Kong sound artists will be invited to conduct durational live interventions at specific times throughout the exhibition. Furthermore, Janice Laujan's band, DAVID BORING, will present a special live performance on September 13, 2026 (Sunday), adding intense creative energy to the project.

Venue & Access

The exhibition is hosted at GOLD, located on the ground floor of the Remex Centre, 42 Wong Chuk Hang Road. The space is carefully curated; visitors are required to remove their shoes before entering (special socks designed for the exhibition will also be available for purchase) to fully experience the tactile ground and auditory details.
