Highlights
As the second installment of the 2026 Yu Lan Cultural Festival's "Resolution Series," this production continues the engaging interactive theatre format. Through immersive storytelling, the performance transports audiences back to the Sheung Wan Triangle Pier in the 1960s, allowing them to personally experience the daily lives and the deep, unspoken camaraderie of Chiu Chow coolies from that era.
Program
The story follows Meng Wanghai, a new immigrant coolie who hides a secret while navigating his daily life. Determined to reunite with his long-lost brother and comrade, Zhang Jingqing, with whom he shared life-and-death experiences during turbulent times, he embarks on an arduous journey of search. More than just a story of a personal search, the play skillfully integrates the origins of the Hong Kong Chiu Chow Yu Lan Festival and its folk traditions into the narrative. Audiences are invited to witness this blend of history, culture, and human emotion within the setting of the bamboo theatre.
