Overview

Adapted from Shen Congwen's literary masterpiece, the musical 'Border Town' takes center stage at the First Songshan Lake International Musical Festival. Set in a tranquil town on the border of Sichuan and Hunan, the story chronicles the life of the young girl, Cuicui, and her grandfather, whose quiet existence is forever changed by the arrival of the brothers Tianbao and Nuosong. The production utilizes the evocative music of composer Chung Chi-wing to transform the delicate rural landscape of the original novel into a profoundly moving theatrical experience.

Under the refined direction of Roy Szeto, the production unfolds like a poetic ink painting. The audience is invited to witness a story defined by well-intentioned choices and unavoidable regrets, ultimately finding light in Cuicui’s steadfast wait—a poignant exploration of growth, fate, and the bittersweet nature of love.
