The Tai Hang Fire Dragon is not just a custom with over 140 years of history; it is a significant intangible cultural heritage of Hong Kong. This workshop is dedicated to promoting traditional craftsmanship, allowing participants to explore the precision and scale of fire dragon construction through both theory and hands-on practice. It is a rare opportunity to engage directly with inheritors of the tradition and experience the cultural vitality of this heritage in modern society.

Program

The Tai Hang Fire Dragon consists of 31 segments and spans 220 feet, requiring precise construction and teamwork to bring to life. In this workshop, participants will be guided by Tai Hang Fire Dragon Commander Mr. Cheung Kwok-ho ("Ho Gor") and professional master craftsmen from the fire dragon team. They will introduce the intricate structure and characteristics of the dragon, covering key steps of the crafting process and explaining the historical and cultural significance behind every detail. It is a perfect way to prepare for the festive season while gaining a deep appreciation for this traditional craft.

Ticketing & Participation Notes

• Date: August 29, 2026
• Assembly Time: 1:45 PM
• Activity Time: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
• Eligibility: Suitable for ages 8 and above. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian (both parties must register).
• Fee: Free of charge, but a HKD 200 refundable deposit is required to secure a spot. The deposit will be refunded in full 6–8 weeks after attendance. Deposits are non-refundable for no-shows.
• Important: The event will be recorded. By participating, you agree to the center's recording policy unless written objection is submitted beforehand. In case of inclement weather (e.g., Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 8 or above, or Red/Black Rainstorm Warning), please watch for announcements regarding postponement or cancellation.
