Participants will gain hands-on experience in the traditional art of bamboo-frame lantern making, a craft officially recognized in the First Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong.

Program

Bamboo lantern crafting is a vital part of Chinese folk art, holding precious memories of the Mid-Autumn Festival for generations. Led by master craftsman Leung Kam-wah, participants will engage with the four core techniques: tying, pasting, painting, and assembling. From bending bamboo strips to form the skeleton to decorating with colorful paper, attendees will learn the craftsmanship required to create a unique piece. This workshop offers a rare glimpse into the history and cultural significance behind traditional flower lanterns. We invite you to step into a world of woven bamboo and paper, and enjoy a warm, festive celebration.

The workshop is led by renowned local artisan Leung Kam-wah, a veteran in the field of papercrafting who is dedicated to promoting and preserving this traditional art form, ensuring that these invaluable cultural skills continue to thrive in modern times.

• Fees: HK$380 (for participants under 12, requiring a parent/guardian, including materials) / HK$320 (for participants 12 or older).
