Overview

Theatre Space presents a musical adaptation of the classic work by Zhao Lian, 'The Second Sex'. Set in 1929 Paris, the story follows the relationship between Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, who sign a contract pledging 'absolute honesty' while allowing each other to love others. As their rational agreement leads to emotional turmoil, Beauvoir finds herself confronting jealousy and despair, ultimately crafting her monumental work 'The Second Sex' while questioning whether their contract was a path to liberation or a self-imposed shackle.

Highlights

  • Classic Adaptation: For the first time, Zhao Lian's classic text is transformed into a musical, blending rigorous philosophical inquiry with emotive melodies and stage artistry.
  • Profound Themes: An exploration of the famous concept 'one is not born, but rather becomes, a woman,' inviting reflection on contemporary themes of emotional autonomy and codependency.
  • Exceptional Cast: A talented local cast and creative team bring this intense emotional journey to life through sophisticated vocal direction and choreography.
