Millennium Joy Garden and Blue Sky Arts Studio present "Gong and Drum Resonance: Yuen Long Arts," a captivating series of Cantonese opera excerpts. Headlined by renowned contemporary performers Lan Tianyou and Zheng Yaqi, this series showcases the profound artistry and technical mastery of traditional Cantonese opera through intense vocal, acting, and physical performances.

Program Details

This three-day series features three classic repertoires:

• September 18 (Fri) 19:15 — "Trial of the Martial Scholar" Written by Poon Yat-fan and debuted in 1968, this six-scene production is a sophisticated "dual-lead" drama, blending civil and martial elements with high dramatic tension.

• September 19 (Sat) 14:15 — "Lin Chong" A signature piece of the Lam school, this performance demands exceptional stagecraft, encompassing delicate dramatic portrayal and the vigorous martial arts sequences of the "Snowy Mountain Temple" scene.

• September 20 (Sun) 14:15 — "Legend of the White Snake" A beloved mythological classic. The performance includes iconic sequences such as the lakeside stroll, stealing the herb, and the flood at Jinshan Mountain, highlighting the cast's emotive range and traditional skill.

Performers

Led by Lan Tianyou and Zheng Yaqi, the cast also features acclaimed actors including Chan Hung-chun, Shum Pak-chuen, Chim Ho-fung, Tsang Wing-chi, and Cheung Siu-lun.
