Echoes of Day and Night: Qi Lei Solo Exhibition

Ben Brown Fine Arts is proud to present "Echoes of Day and Night," a solo exhibition featuring the work of Shanghai-based artist Qi Lei, marking the gallery's inaugural collaboration with the artist. The exhibition is deeply rooted in Qi Lei's recent reflections on music, painting, and the concept of time. The title is inspired by the artist's experience attending a live performance by the post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor, whose abstract musical language served as a catalyst for his exploration of the boundaries between figuration and abstraction in painting.

Highlights

Works such as Morning Mist Rising at Dusk (2026) highlight the artist’s interest in the transitional states of time—those elusive moments where one state shifts into another. Qi Lei’s process involves deconstructing established paradigms of imagery and reconstructing them into a rhythmic visual language that captures the fluidity of experience. Rather than simple reproduction, the artist focuses on reorganization, allowing the painting itself to dictate the rhythm of the composition.
