Overview
"MIMA," written and directed by Woo Hiu-yee, is an experimental theatre piece that explores themes of love, loss, and memory. The narrative unfolds in a world devoid of funerals—a domain where time stands still, reminiscent of a digital landscape. Derived from sci-fi concepts of consciousness uploading, the performance transforms the theatre space into a functioning machine. The audience is invited to enter this internal system, confronting the memories of a mother, the confusion surrounding death, and the struggle of a soul trapped within a digital framework. When the machine preserves consciousness, what remains for those of us watching from the outside?
