"Housekeeping" Exhibition

Cheng-Lan’s Corner is proud to present the group exhibition "Housekeeping," the second installment of its institutional collection series. This exhibition continues the exploration of "home" and "belonging" through the works of five female artists across installation, photography, and sculpture, deeply deconstructing and reflecting on the intimate, daily labor within the modern household.

Program

The title "Housekeeping" alludes not only to domestic chores but also to the intimate labor required to maintain, organize, and stabilize families within social structures. The participating artists weave their creative practices into the fabric of family and community life. Using diverse media such as painting, readymade objects, and craft, they explore themes of matrilineal heritage, female autonomy, and complex interpersonal relationships. The exhibition opens with works by two pioneering female artists, Ruth Asawa and Olga de Amaral, demonstrating how they integrated motherhood into their artistic process. Additionally, the exhibition features the new installation "The Room is Empty, But Pregnant" (2026) by Xue Ying, the diary-like creations of Elene Chantladze, and the photography series "New Clothes for the Emperor" (2006) by Naiza Khan.

The exhibition is held at Cheng-Lan’s Corner (G/F, 3 Tai Tsz Terrace, Mid-Levels, Hong Kong). Visitors are encouraged to arrive via public transport and are reminded to check the exhibition hours. The exhibition runs from September 23 to November 28, 2026.
