A Duality of Movement: Two Matters
City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) proudly presents 《兩咚咚》(Two Matters) as the opening performance of the 2026-27 dance season, 'Layered Scapes'. This production brings together two distinct choreographic visions: Chen Wu-kang's 'Restory' and Wong Chun-bong's 'Nowhere to Land'.
The title 'Two Matters' (derived from the Cantonese '東西', meaning 'things/stuff' but also hinting at the 'East and West' cultural intersections) reflects the personal journeys of the two choreographers—one bringing family memories from Taiwan, and the other returning with experiences of migration from the UK.
The Programmes
'Restory' (〈休息記〉) by Chen Wu-kang Focusing on the body and history, Chen Wu-kang explores the concept of 'rest'. Rather than a simple pause, 'Restory' approaches rest as a form of rearrangement. Set to classic Cantonese pop songs, the piece evokes deep collective memories, prompting the audience to reconsider their relationship with their own bodies, weight, and movement.
'Nowhere to Land' (〈流離半空中〉) by Wong Chun-bong Wong Chun-bong turns his focus to the mind. Born from states of extreme anxiety or insomnia, the piece depicts the 'floating' nature of thoughts—constantly appearing and vanishing in a cycle between order and chaos. It is a striking examination of how one maintains clarity in an uncertain world.
