Overview

The "Creator Incubation" program is the flagship support platform for creators launched by Blank Space Studio for the 2026-27 season. Building on over a decade of dedication to arts education and performance training, this project aims to break through barriers of single media, culture, and organization. We are weaving a robust support network for local creators, providing a space for knowledge sharing, process-oriented experiments, and performances, with the goal of fostering a healthier ecosystem for the performing arts.

Program: Documentation and Extension

This workshop is a core unit of the "First Phase: Co-learning" of the Creator Incubation program. In the journey of creation, apart from final performance footage, rehearsal photos, or reviews, there are many valuable elements that often go undocumented. "Documentation" is not just a task to satisfy funding report requirements or to feed social media; it is an essential asset for individual creators and groups to plan, reflect, and strategize for the future.

In this unit, our guest speakers will deconstruct the contents, formats, and significance of documentation. They will:

  • Discuss the distinction between creative and administrative records.
  • Analyze the importance of archiving for long-term development.
  • Provide practical, simple, and effective steps for creators with limited resources to build their own comprehensive archival database, referencing both local and international best practices.

Speakers

  • Chan Kwok-wai: General Manager of the International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong).
  • Mak Ka-lai: Archivist at Chung Ying Theatre Company and Board Member of the Hong Kong Archives Society.
