Event Introduction
During the Hong Kong Museum Festival 2026, the Heritage of Mei Ho House is hosting the "Bring Intangible Cultural Heritage Home: Mini Fa-Pai Keychain Workshop." This event is more than just a craft session; it is a profound opportunity to explore the local traditional culture of Hong Kong. Fa-Pai (flower plaque), an essential visual symbol of traditional Hong Kong festivals—ranging from the Tin Hau Festival to the Yu Lan Festival and Tai Ping Qing Jiao—captures the collective memory of the city with its vibrant colors and majestic structure. This exquisite craft was officially inscribed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage list of Hong Kong in 2014.
Highlights
This workshop guides participants through the process of "miniaturizing" the traditional large-scale Fa-Pai. You will experience:
- Cultural Insight: Learn about the history, structural aesthetics, and the unique status of Fa-Pai in Hong Kong's festive traditions.
- Hands-on Crafting: From building the structural framework to learning how to apply traditional techniques to miniature handicrafts.
- Personalization: Decorate your work and add personalized blessing messages to create a one-of-a-kind mini Fa-Pai keychain souvenir.
