Program Overview
"Out of twelve shops there, at least eight were printing shops." This nostalgic memory recounts the golden era of the printing industry on Wing Lee Street. As the city undergoes redevelopment, the prevalence of printing shops in Central and Sheung Wan has faded into history, replaced by modern high-rises. The "City Wandering - Movable Type Central" guided tour invites you to rediscover these hidden historical layers through the unique lens of the printing trade.
Highlights
This cultural tour focuses on the development of the local printing industry starting from the 1840s. We will explore the origins and evolution of Chinese lead movable type and search for the surviving remnants of the trade within the district.
