Exhibition Overview
"Becoming Flowers" marks the first Hong Kong solo exhibition by artist Oh Haji, who gained recognition as the winner of the "Audience Choice Award" at the 2024 ANTEPRIMA × CHAT Contemporary Textile Art Prize. This exhibition traces the artist’s creative evolution, highlighting how she employs textile materials and techniques such as weaving, embroidery, and dyeing to articulate themes of diasporic memory, female resilience, and communal healing.
About the Artist
As a third-generation Zainichi Korean born and raised in Japan, Oh Haji's artistic practice is deeply rooted in personal identity exploration. Over the years, her work has evolved to include participatory elements, where she reimagines textile crafts as a collaborative medium. Through workshops, she invites strangers to connect, fostering relationships and shared understanding. Her clothing pieces and co-created works displayed in this exhibition serve as a testament to the depth of human experience and a tribute to the unsung histories of women.
