Overview

The Forest Life Festival is the annual highlight of the "Village Forest Project: Mui Tsz Lam & Kop Tong Sustainable Village Project." Through a series of workshops, guided tours, and outdoor experiences related to nature, art, and village culture, the festival aims to introduce the public to the revitalization efforts in these two villages and encourage collective participation in safeguarding the forest villages.

Program Details

Now in its fourth year, the "New Year's Day Sunrise Tour" is the finale of the Forest Life Festival:

  • New Year's Eve Night Hike: Participants gather at Tai Po Market MTR Station and travel to Wu Kau Tang. The journey follows the Wu Kau Tang Country Trail and Lai Kwu Ancient Trail, walking quietly under the stars.
  • Heartwarming Refreshments: At the Mui Tsz Lam Story House, organizers provide hot food and warm tea to boost energy for hikers.
  • Conquering the Peak: Traversing the hidden paths behind Mui Tsz Lam and Kop Tong, participants ascend Tiu Tang Lung (the highest peak in the Northeast New Territories) to bid farewell to 2026 under the starlit sky.
  • Spectacular Sunrise: Witness the first golden light of 2027 and enjoy panoramic views of Double Haven (Yan Chau Tong) and Sha Tau Kok before trekking down to Sam A Tsuen.

  • Fee: HK$250.
  • Add-on: Optional speedboat service from Sam A to Sha Tau Kok is available for HK$50.
