Overview
This summer, the Foss Symphony Orchestra is set to embark on a prestigious international tour to Vienna and Prague, the historic hearts of classical music. To celebrate this milestone and showcase their hard work, the orchestra will join forces with the New Century Academy Orchestra for a special pre-tour concert at the Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre, featuring the full repertoire prepared for their European performances.
Highlights
This concert is a vibrant display of the talent and dedication of Hong Kong's young musicians. The program is thoughtfully curated to provide a balanced and engaging experience. The first half, conducted by Dr. Ho Ka-ying, features the New Century Academy Orchestra performing a diverse mix of works, including the iconic "Beneath the Lion Rock," the dramatic finale of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, selections from "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," excerpts from "The Sound of Music," and Amy Beach’s "Bal Masqué."
In the second half, Music Director Wan Long-kin leads the Foss Symphony Orchestra in a display of symphonic mastery. They will open with the rhythmic "Love Song" from Li Huanzhi’s "Spring Festival Suite," followed by a complete performance of Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3, "Scottish," demonstrating the orchestra's technical depth and artistic vision.
