Highlights

"Thoughts on St. Matthew Passion" is more than a concert; it is a profound exploration of spiritual freedom. Led by Singfest Artistic Director Chiu Pak-shing, in collaboration with Music Director Lin Ho-yan, Music Shaper Liao Tzu-cheng, and Dance/Movement Therapist Chan Wan-lok, the work deconstructs and re-weaves J.S. Bach's immortal "St. Matthew Passion."

Through the four themes of "Sorrow, Repentance, Betrayal, and Justice," the performance leads the audience on an introspective journey spanning a millennium. Within the same space, audience members are invited to wander and reflect, engaging in a dialogue with their inner selves.

Program

  • Sorrow (25 June): Dealing with the inevitability of farewell and the practice of letting go.
  • Repentance (26 June): Examining the conflicts of the human heart and the weight of betrayal.
  • Betrayal (27 June): Reflecting on vows that once seemed immovable yet eventually crumbled into sand.
  • Justice (28 June): Confronting the feelings of guilt and the moral compromises made in the face of fear.

Important Notes

  • Total runtime is approximately 75 minutes, including a pre-show talk, with no intermission.
  • Free seating; audiences are encouraged to walk around the performance space.
