Overview
'CARCERI' is a site-specific recital presented by pianist-composer Arthur Siyun Li at Tai Kwun, the former Central Police Station compound. This unique hour-long program uses contemporary piano music as a lens to explore the spiritual and spatial dimensions of the site, connecting it to a broader landscape of myth, ruin, and memory.
The music, ranging from the delicate to the magisterial, is accompanied by a synchronously unfolding textual projection. Inspired by Jorge Luis Borges' 'The House of Asterion' and Susanna Clarke's 'Piranesi', the prose navigates the labyrinthine structure of Tai Kwun, inviting the audience to reflect on colonial history, carceral themes, architectural preservation, and collective memory.
