Highlights

The 'Giant Series' is dedicated to retracing the artistic footsteps of legendary masters in theatrical history. We delve into the cultural contexts and creative souls of classic playwrights, aiming to help audiences appreciate the profound nourishment of theatrical art from a broader perspective.

Program

This series inaugural installment focuses on the legendary American playwright Arthur Miller. As one of the most frequently staged playwrights globally, Miller's masterpieces such as Death of a Salesman, The Crucible, and All My Sons have left a lasting impact. These lectures revolve around his 1968 work, The Price, a play that won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Play and continues to resonate with audiences half a century later.

The series includes three pre-show lecture sessions:

  • A Brief History of American Theatre (Part I & II): Presented by Wu Hoi-fai, this session explores the evolution of American theatre and situates Arthur Miller within that context.
  • The Playwriting Art of Arthur Miller - Focusing on 'Death of a Salesman': Hosted by Wu Hoi-fai, with guest speaker Cheng Tik-kei, this session analyzes Miller's craft.
  • Directing Arthur Miller's Plays: Veteran theatre practitioners Fung Luk-tak and Fu Yuet-mei share their unique insights and practical experiences in directing Miller's works.
