Highlights
Why Not Theatre is proud to present its fourth annual production, 'The Last Madman,' a devised theatre piece adapted from Aldous Huxley's seminal classic, 'Brave New World.' This production dissects the core issues of contemporary society—'sex-obsessed' culture and 'amusing ourselves to death.' Through the expressive physical language of local Hong Kong actors, the play contrasts the wild nature of the reservation against the absurdity of the 'World State,' offering a fresh perspective on this timeless literary masterpiece.
Program
The story follows John, a youth raised in the Primitive Reservation who harbors a deep fascination with modern civilization. Along with Lenina, he enters the high-tech, advanced 'World State.' However, as his deep soul and love for Shakespeare collide with a society that relies on drugs and sex while rejecting true emotion, he becomes the loneliest of outsiders. Through stark contrasts, the play explores how modern civilization can erode humanity, serving as a profound search for existential meaning.
