Overview
Every superhero needs a signature cape, and now your child can create their very own!
Join this two-day summer camp where children will explore the plants grown for the CHAT community project, "Fabricated Landscapes 2026." Participants will learn to translate the colors and forms of nature into textile creations. Through activities like leaf printing, fabric dyeing, and basic sewing, each participant will craft a unique, custom-made superhero cape. This cape can also be repurposed as a functional apron, perfect for assisting in daily tasks. All children are welcome to unleash their inner hero and define their own style.
Program Details
- Day 1: Dyeing the Fabric Participants will learn leaf printing techniques at the CHAT studio and collect natural materials like marigolds, safflowers, and indigo to add unique patterns and colors to their fabric.
- Day 2: Crafting Your Cape At the CHAT laboratory, children will learn the basics of cutting, hand sewing, and sewing machine operation to turn their dyed fabric into a custom cape. They will also create their own masks and emblems using heat-transfer art and various accessories to bring their superhero persona to life.
