An Interactive Musical Journey
Prepare for an unforgettable night at the WestK Cabaret Festival, where How Drama presents their acclaimed production, Big Brown Girl. This interactive, one-person musical comedy invites you into the vibrant and often hilarious world of Ruby, a 32-year-old plus-size woman who is unapologetically herself, even while navigating the treacherous waters of modern dating apps.
Meet Ruby
Ruby is confident, optimistic, and relentlessly persistent in her search for love. Whether she is in Singapore, Malaysia, Washington, or Paris, Ruby has seen it all. Her dating adventures are full of bizarre characters and awkward encounters that feel all too real. As the audience, you aren't just watching a show—you become Ruby's best friends and confidantes. Throughout the performance, you will hear her intimate, funny, and sometimes heartbreaking stories of navigating prejudice against her size and ethnic background.
The Interactive Experience
Big Brown Girl is more than just a musical; it is an act of defiance against the limiting stereotype that "only thin is beautiful." The show, created by performer Ross Nasir and director Melissa Sim, uses original, catchy songs and Nasir's sharp comedic timing to keep you engaged. You will even be invited to vote and act as Ruby's love advisor, helping her navigate the pitfalls and finally find her "Mr. Right."
