Overview
Facing the currents of fate, should humans submit, or should they rise to resist? 'Oedipus at Canal Road' takes the classical Greek tragedy 'Oedipus Rex' as its foundation, shifting the perspective to contemporary Hong Kong to explore the ancient question of destiny. Created by Yau Theatre, this theatrical work masterfully blends Nietzschean philosophy, the randomness of quantum mechanics, and traditional local geomancy to construct a 'contemporary book of destiny' for today's society.
Through original music, ancient Greek melodies, live instrumentation, and expressive physical theatre, the performance rewrites this centuries-old tragedy. The production team invites the audience to consider whether, within an unknowable universe, modern individuals can still hold the reins of their own destiny.
