Opera: Donizetti's "The Elixir of Love"

Opera Hong Kong presents the classic opera The Elixir of Love (L'elisir d'amore) by the Italian master Gaetano Donizetti. This two-act semi-staged performance will take place at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall on August 14 and 15, 2026, promising a night of romantic, humorous, and heartfelt music for local opera enthusiasts.

Program

The Elixir of Love is one of the most successful and enduring comic operas in history. The story follows the modest Nemorino, who, in a desperate bid to win the heart of the beautiful Adina, purchases a "love potion" from the traveling quack Doctor Dulcamara, even going so far as to enlist in the army to pay for it. The production features some of the most famous arias in opera, including the touching "Una furtiva lagrima," and perfectly captures the romanticism and wit of Donizetti’s style.

Performers

Produced by Warren Mok and conducted by Olsi Qinami, this production is directed by Tang Xinxin, who returns following her successful collaborations with Opera Hong Kong in The Merry Widow (2025) and Die Entführung aus dem Serail (2024). The cast features a stellar group of local talent, including Adina (played by Chung Ka-yan or Chan Miu-yin), Nemorino (played by Chan Wing or Ngan Ka-lok), alongside Lin Jun, Lin Kwok-ho, Kwan Kit-ming, and Sham Hei-wing. They will be supported by the Opera Hong Kong Orchestra and Chorus.

Ticketing
