Highlights
As part of the fifth-anniversary celebrations of M+, this exhibition places the spotlight on the world-renowned architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. As the designers behind the iconic M+ building, the firm has donated a significant collection of models, drawings, and material samples. The exhibition offers a rare glimpse into their visionary design philosophy and creative evolution, featuring key projects in China, such as M+, Tai Kwun in Hong Kong, and the National Stadium in Beijing.
Program
The exhibition is inspired by the 'KABINETT,' a permanent storage space located at the firm's Basel headquarters. Recognizing that architectural structures themselves cannot be easily displayed, Herzog & de Meuron created this open-access, storage-style space to preserve and share their architectural knowledge. By replicating these wooden display cabinets in the M+ Focus Space, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the intimate details, creative processes, and thoughtful considerations behind their groundbreaking designs. It serves as an open laboratory for discovery rather than a traditional viewing experience.
About the Architects
Founded in Basel, Switzerland, in 1978, Herzog & de Meuron is globally acclaimed for its innovative and bold architectural contributions. Since the early 2000s, the firm has been deeply involved in China’s architectural development, witnessing and shaping the nation's rapid urban growth and economic transformation through numerous landmark projects.
Venue & Access
The exhibition will be held at the M+ Focus Space, located on the second floor of the M+ museum. Please note that the final date of the exhibition will be announced in due course.
